September 2008 Prayer Letter

When the enemy comes in like a flood,

The spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard

Isaiah 59:19

Dear friend,

Steady rain from Hurricane Gustave caused flooding and death in Haiti’s southern villages.  Ground already saturated from tropical storm Fay could not hold anymore precipitation, giving way to mudslides in the village of Benet.  On the mountain we experienced 48 hours of steady rain and fog with some wind.  At Riverie Glasse, a river we crossed in June to film in Jeremie, a bus succumbed to flood waters drowning 50 people.  In Cite Soleil, the below sea level Port au Prince slum, shacks and streets were under two feet of flooded canal sewage.

Today we visited Tele Nationale to drop off television shows and toured the government facility.  Once again God has given us favor with the staff; the Abricot show will be aired several times this week.  It features a fishing village where the Mayor Jean Claude Fignole is offering land to any organization implementing a development project for the region.  There are no missionaries there, even though it is a breathtaking seaside village. A natural cove protected by rock cliffs, the black sand extends uninterrupted into a gentle Caribbean sea; but the isolation and lack of infrastructure is formidable to foreigners. We pray the show will stimulate interest and someone will hear the Macedonian call to Abricot.

Abricot, Jeremie and the Grand ‘Anse, southern region, received the brunt of Gustav’s wind and rains.  Full reports of death and damage are not yet available as the area is unreachable by vehicle after heavy rains. Deadly malaria, already epidemic, and typhoid fever will follow the hurricane devastation as standing, septic water form a disease incubator.

Last month our support fell dramatically affected by the US recession and historic summer decline in mission donations. We, however, have not slowed our evangelistic thrust.  Yvonne and I begin our days at 5:00 AM and work on weekends to produce this fourth season. We were not able to purchase the DVD duplicator to make necessary copies of our four seasons of thirteen shows. Currently La Bonne Nouvelle, Creole Christian program, is aired daily on five stations in the US and Haiti. With a DVD duplicator, priced at $990.00, shipping and customs to Haiti will be another $300.00; I will duplicate the four seasons and add sixty more Haitian television stations.  The sixty new stations are made available to us by the US State Department liaison.  I need this DVD duplicator to make over three thousand copies (3000). Please pray about your sacrificial gift to purchase this equipment and use the enclosed envelope to write to us today.  All gifts to Haiti for Christ are acknowledged and receive a tax deductible receipt.

Please continue to pray and give as unto Christ for the soul winning efforts we are making.  You are a vital part of Haiti for Christ; we need your financial participation.  Yvonne and I pray you will hear the Lord speak to you about His plan and your part to bring this nation to Him.  Thank you very much.

Raising up His standard,

Joel and Yvonne Trimble
